Derrick D. Southard is Founder and Executive Director of Youth Enterprise Services, Inc. (YES), a 16-year old, Maryland 501(c)(3) corporation that provides a continuum of community based programs serving youth in Maryland’s Child Welfare and Juvenile Justice systems. In 1995 Mr. Southard founded Milestone Associates, Inc., an economic development consulting practice.For the past 10 years, Milestone has primarily focused on providing brownsfields redevelopment consulting in addition to public sector loan fund management services.

Mr. Southard had a 15-year corporate commercial real estate lending career prior to establishing YES and Milestone. He was a Vice President within Bank of American’s commercial real estate lending group in Baltimore and also worked for other major commercial lenders within the industry to include Metropolitan Life (commercial Real Estate Division) and Westinghouse Credit Corporation’s Real Estate Lending Group. Mr. Southard has served on several civic boards to include the Boys and Girls Club of Rehoboth Beach, Chesapeake Bay Outward Bound and The House of Ruth. Mr. Southard holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Alabama and a Masters of Arts degree in City and Regional Planning from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
